About Norfolk Tang Soo Do
Founded in 2018 by Mr Reeve, Norfolk Tang Soo Do provides a welcoming place to learn the traditional Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do. Training focuses on developing practical techniques, discipline, confidence, fitness and respect in a supportive environment. Whether you are new to martial arts or looking to continue your training, Norfolk Tang Soo Do offers structured classes that encourage students to progress at their own pace while building both physical ability and a strong martial arts mindset.
Traditional Values and Personal Development
At Norfolk Tang Soo Do, students learn that martial arts training is about more than punches, kicks and forms. Each class promotes the core values of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit, helping students apply these principles both inside and outside the dojang. Through regular practice, clear goals and positive encouragement, students can develop greater focus, resilience and self-belief while becoming part of a respectful and encouraging martial arts community.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to develop capable martial artists who strengthen the community. Through focused training, practical skills and respectful discipline, we help each student build confidence, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility. We believe martial arts are not only about physical ability; they are also about supporting others, setting a positive example and contributing to a safer, more connected community.
Growth Through Respect
We foster an inclusive training environment where every student is encouraged to learn, improve and treat others with respect. By working alongside training partners of different ages, backgrounds and experience levels, students develop humility, patience and teamwork. These values extend beyond the dojo, helping them approach everyday challenges with a calm mindset, positive attitude and genuine consideration for those around them.
What Is Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art that combines striking, kicking, blocking, self-defence and forms practice. Its name is commonly translated as “Way of the Chinese Hand”, reflecting historical influences from Chinese martial arts, although the art developed in Korea. Modern Tang Soo Do was formalised in the mid-20th century and is closely related to other Korean systems, including Taekwondo. Training typically includes basic techniques, partner drills, hyung (patterned forms), sparring and board breaking. Tang Soo Do is known for its powerful, controlled kicks, disciplined stances and emphasis on respect, confidence and personal development. Many schools also teach practical self-defence, but the art places equal importance on etiquette, perseverance and building good character.
